Convening civic and industry leaders from all around world to create net zero energy, carbon, and water communities.
Net Zero Cities is focused on systems thinking to develop community-based solutions for attaining net zero energy, carbon, and water. True progress will take cooperation among private businesses, government, utilities, policy makers, research institutions and individuals. Net Zero Cities brings these sectors and interests together to learn from one another and to develop actionable steps that advance progress towards net zero practices in communities throughout the world.
The event will bring together thought leaders from around the globe to share their systems-based approaches, processes and examples of success in working towards net zero at the community scale. The event includes both presentations and working sessions. The working sessions in particular will be a hands-on, across-the-table opportunity for participants to engage in active dialogue and share the strategies on which communities, businesses, utilities, higher education institutions are collaborating to reach their net zero goals.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects a 53% increase in energy demand alone between 2008 and 2035. Total world energy use will rise from 505 Quadrillion BTUs in 2008 to 770 Quadrillion BTUs in 2035. Tackling energy consumption, finding alternatives to carbon-based fuels and managing finite water resources will require a sustained, long-term effort – but the time to start is now.
